James McAvoy

James McAvoy was born on April 21, 1979 in Glasgow, Scotland, to Elizabeth, a nurse, and James McAvoy, Sr., a builder. McAvoy was raised by his grandparents after his father abandoned his mother when James was seven.  He has a sister, Joy, and a younger half-brother, Donald. McAvoy has not been in contact with his father since childhood. In November of 2006 he married actress, Anne-Marie Duff.  They have a son named Brendan together who was born in 2010.

James McAvoy played with the idea of becoming a priest as a child, but when he was 16 a visit to the school by actor David Hayman sparked an interest in acting. McAvoy delved into acting and worked his way up the ladder. His performance in The Last King of Scotland got him noticed. He received several award nominations. His role in Atonement earned him a Golden Globe nomination. He is most famous for playing Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
