Amanda Seyfried was born on December 3rd 1985. She was raised in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Her mother Ann Sander is an occupational therapist, and her father, Jack Seyfried, is a pharmacist. Seyfried has an older sister, Jennifer Seyfried, who is a musician.
As a child model, Amanda Seyfried initially signed with Image International Agency in Allentown, Pennsylvania before working under Bethlehem's Pro Model Agency and eventually with Wilhelmina agency in New York. At 15 she began acting; at first she landed uncredited roles and later she moved on to recurring roles on the soap operas As the World Turns and All My Children. Seyfried graduated in 2003 from Allentown's William Allen High School. Seyfried missed 70 school days during her senior year in high school due to her acting commitments. After graduation, she was accepted to Fordham University when she was offered a role in Mean Girls. She deferred her education until after filming ended.
Seyfried is best known for her parts in film as Karen Smith in Mean Girls, Sophie Sheridan in Mamma Mia!, Anita ‘Needy' Lesnicki in Jennifer's Body, Sophie Hall in Letters to Juliet and Valerie in Red Riding Hood. Seyfried also had roles on television as Lilly Kane on Veronica Mars from 2004-2006 and as Sarah Henrickson in Big Love from 2006-2011.
Seyfried has stated that she suffers from anxiety and panic attacks. She also suffers from stage fright, because of this she avoided performing in theater productions.
The actress has a taxidermy collection. Some of her collections contain a baby horse, a fox, an owl, a moose, a goat, a hybrid taxidermy deer and butterflies. She was voted as one of People magazine's 100 Most Beautiful People in the World. Seyfried has an Australian shepherd dog named Finn. The correct pronunciation of her last name is 'Sigh-Frid'.
